Getting around Puerto de la Cruz with reduced mobility

Puerto de la Cruz is a different kind of resort from the purpose-built south: an old banana port turned tourist town, with two César Manrique-designed landmarks at its heart and a genuine, walkable centre rather than a strip of hotels. It rewards a little planning, and it is well worth it.

The town's two big draws — Playa Jardín and the Lago Martiánez seawater pool complex — are linked by a flat, paved seafront promenade around 2.5 kilometres long, roughly a 30-minute walk end to end and easy scooter territory. Playa Jardín has an accessible route from the car park down to the sand, adapted showers and changing rooms, and lifeguard cover; Lago Martiánez has step-free access around most of the complex and adapted bathrooms with grab bars. Both are worth building a day around.

Away from the seafront, the historic old town — the streets around La Ranilla and Casco Antiguo — is genuinely charming but has narrow, cobbled streets and real gradients in places. If your hotel or apartment sits up in the old town rather than along the front, an all-terrain scooter or a companion-pushed wheelchair will make daily life noticeably easier than a small travel scooter.

Delivery

How we deliver in Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz sits on the opposite side of the island from our main south-Tenerife delivery area, but it is one of the areas we serve most often — plenty of our bookings come from here. Tell us your accommodation and dates and we will confirm delivery timing when you book.

If you are flying in, it matters which airport you land at. Tenerife North Airport (Los Rodeos, TFN) is close — about 26 km, roughly 20 minutes by road. You can either have the equipment waiting at your accommodation, or have us meet you in arrivals at TFN for €25 each way, so you leave the terminal already mobile. Tenerife South Airport (TFS) is much further, around 90 km and over an hour's drive; we can meet you there too, on the same terms, but if you land at TFS most people staying here prefer free delivery straight to their hotel.

Mobility hire in Puerto de la Cruz — FAQs

Which airport should I fly into?

If you have a choice, Tenerife North Airport (Los Rodeos, TFN) is much closer — about 26 km and 20 minutes away — than Tenerife South Airport (TFS), which is roughly 90 km and over an hour's drive from Puerto de la Cruz. We deliver to both.

Is Puerto de la Cruz flat, or hilly?

Both, depending on where you are. The seafront promenade linking Playa Jardín and Lago Martiánez is flat and paved for about 2.5 kilometres. The historic old town behind it has narrow, cobbled streets with real gradients in places — worth bearing in mind when you choose accommodation and equipment.

Which beach is best for wheelchair users?

Playa Jardín, designed by César Manrique, has an accessible route from the car park to the sand, wheelchair-accessible showers and changing rooms, and lifeguard cover. The nearby Lago Martiánez seawater pool complex also has step-free access around most of the site and adapted bathrooms.

Do you deliver here on the same terms as in the south?

Yes — exactly the same, and free. Puerto de la Cruz is one of our busiest delivery areas, and there is no surcharge and no minimum for being in the north. Book online as normal and give us the address at checkout. If you would rather come to us, our premises in Icod de los Vinos are about 25 minutes away and collecting there is free too — you can choose that option at checkout.
